580 Kampung Melayu Residents Evacuate Due to Flood

RW 04, 05, 06, 07, and 08 of Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Jatinegara, East Jakarta were flooded as high as 1-2 meters on Monday (2/8), which caused affected residents to evacuate.

792 families or 2,491 people affected by flood

Kampung Melayu Urban Village Head, Setiyawan stated, currently about 580 residents occupy 5 evacuation posts located on urban village office, SDN Kampung Melayu 01/02 building, Ruhul Islam Mosque RW 07, Ihtihadul Ikhwan Mosque at RW 08 and RW 07 Post.

"In total, there are 580 people who evacuate. It could increase because water has not yet receded," he mentioned.

Dozens Affected by Floods in Pejaten Timur Evacuated

In order to anticipate number of people who evacuate due to flood, his side has prepared additional shelter at SMPN 26 Building.

"PPSU personnel have been deployed to prepare it," he added.

According to him, Ciliwung River overflowed to residential areas since Sunday (2/7) around 13:30. Rain continued to fall across Jabodetabek and triggered higher flood. Today at 12:00, flood at RW 04 and 05 reached 2.75 meters. Until 14:30, flood hadn't receded in both RWs.

"792 families or 2,491 people affected by flood. Not all of them evacuate, since some of them still stay at their houses," he informed.

According to him, his side has coordinated with East Jakarta Social Sub-agency thus residents in evacuation posts can be supplied with ready-to-eat food tonight.
